Who we are

The Head and Neck 5000 Executive Team are responsible for the management of the study. The Executive is a collaboration of experienced clinicians, academics and members of the study coordination team. Together they provide a local resource of scientific knowledge and expertise. They meet regularly to consider proposals for research using the study data and to review papers. From time to time the Head and Neck 5000 Executive may seek advice from other key individuals. The final decision lies with the Director; Dr Miranda Pring.

Dr Miranda Pring  FRCPath PhD
Dr Miranda Pring is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol and honorary Consultant in Head and Neck Pathology working for both University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust and North Bristol NHS Trust.
Her research interests include aetiology and pathogenesis of Head and Neck cancers, tissue based biomarkers/prognosticators including HPV and EBV, biobanking, digital pathology and patient reported outcomes.
Dr Tom Dudding BSc BDS MSc PhD FDS(Rest Dent) RCPS(Glasg)
Dr Tom Dudding is a Consultant Senior Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Bristol and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.
His research interests include head and neck cancer epidemiology, the study of germline genetics in oral health and secondary effects of head and neck cancer treatment.
Dr Sarah Hargreaves MRCP FRCR MD
Dr Sarah Hargreaves is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol.
Her research interests include Head and Neck palliative radiotherapy, long term radiotoxicity, Patient/Carer Reported Outcomes, and improving equity of access to clinical studies.
Prof Steve Thomas PhD FRCS
Consultant OMFS Head and Neck Surgeon University of Bristol and University Hospital Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
Together with Prof Andy Ness conceived and set up the Head and Neck 5000 clinical cohort. Research interests include the aetiology head and neck cancer and its management.
Katrina Hurley
Katrina is the Study Manager, she has a background in nursing and has worked on Head and Neck 5000 since we first started recruiting, initially as a research nurse recruiting local participants and supporting the research teams around the UK before moving into the study management role.
Stu Toms
Stu has been the Data Manager for Head and Neck 5000 since 2012, while also managing data for many other research studies at the University of Bristol and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
